Graphic design is described as “the art and practice of organizing and communicating ideas and interactions through visual and textual material.” In other terms, graphic design expresses some ideas or messages visually. Such icons may be as simple as a company logo or as abstract as a web page design.
Advertisers can use graphic design to advertise and sell products through ads, websites to digestibly convey complicated information through infographics, or companies to create credibility through branding, among other things.
It should also be recalled that although some graphic design companies, such as advertisements and signage, have commercial purposes, they are also seen in other ways, while graphic design is commonly produced solely as a medium of creative speech.

The industry norm for graphic designers is Adobe Creative Cloud. This is now a subscription service, formerly known as Adobe Creativity Suite, which allows consumers to search a range of more than 20 innovative applications. While it is not anticipated that you would be a specialist on all of these applications, the following programmes are essential to the Graphic Designer’s knowledge.
Photoshop
Key Use: Edit, compose & create photos
Photoshop is often the first app to be dabbled in by budding artists, but you are sorely mistaken if you believe you can get away with modelling something on Photoshop! While Photoshop has a lot of functionality and a very good all-rounder, as a graphic designer, you can soon discover that it does not have all the characteristics you need. This is valid all in the majority of the programmes.
InDesign
Key use: print & internet publication page design & layout;
InDesign’s specialization is more in formats and documents. For this program, something that includes a lot of text (think restaurant menus) or is designed to be printed (magazines, flyers, business cards, etc.) is best suited.
Illustrator
Key usage: graphics with vectors & sketches
When you make graphs, this programme is the one you want to use! The illustrator is also the king of vector drawing. A vector graphic consists of paths identified by the start point and the end point, and along the way may have other points, curves, and angles. This is different from the pictures, which are made of pixels, that you will create in Photoshop. To put it plainly, as you extend a vector, it would be sharp and smooth. It can be expanded from an icon to a billboard, and it will still be sharp.
A graph composed of pixels may become warped at some point. Surely, these three applications are the ones you want to be proficient in.
Illustrator is not ideal for creating multi-page papers, and it will cause certain pitfalls when utilising the app in this way. Like InDesign, Illustrator does not have a means of setting up master sites. When designing documents that use templates, this is an essential method. You are also not encouraged by Illustrator to automate the page numbers. This is another function that InDesign embraces, which when dealing on bigger documents may be incredibly beneficial.
The variations between the graphic artist and the film/content producer, though, are continually blurred, rendering video increasingly important. As a graphic artist, you are definitely going to want basic knowledge of video editing tools.
